a black car, out of nowhere smashed into the side of our car airbags exploded slammed us, side to side. thrown about, he screamed, in pain. drifted forward and down the road. grabbed furiously at airbags, at the door desperate to get to him, to soothe him, to calm him, to reassure him. came to a stop, scrambled over the seat, tore open the back door to get to him, to see him, to hold him. lifted him from the car, legs dangled, motionless. eyes wide with pain and fright, he made no sound. my dear, sweet boy. injuries too severe to heal, he lay motionless on the gurney, his eyes searched for me as they always did. I cradled his head in my arm, and whispered my love and my deep gratitude continually in his ear. he gave a deep sigh and breathed his last. i will never not miss him.
